Atheist thinkers often make unproved assumptions to support their beliefs.
This is despite claiming that Scientific proof is necessary to believe in something, and denying God on this basis.
To me it is obvious, that the experimental methods of Physical Science cannot answer questions related to the existence or non-existence of God.
God is after all, non-material.
This is why — despite stunning evidence for God’s existence – Atheists persist in denial, claiming a lack of evidence – as Bertrand Russell famously did.
In this article, I will focus on 5 unproved Atheist assumptions. The point being that there is a clear double standard in the Atheist stance.
Unproved Atheist Assumptions #1#
Everything in nature occurs as a result of cause-effect relationships.
The essence of scientific enquiry is directed to discovering the causes of natural phenomena. If one discarded this assumption science would also be discarded alongside it.
Nonetheless how can a scientist ever demonstrate the truth of this idea? Can we ever scientifically confirm this idea? Not for some things or many things, but for all things in the natural world?
Unproved Atheist Assumptions #2#
The human brain has the capacity to understand the truth about the physical world.
What possible experiment could confirm this statement? Or falsify it? How would one prove or disprove such a suggestion?
However if any scientist doubted this for a moment, he would be suggesting that all of science is subjective and may turn out completely wrong.
As such the objectivity and reliability of science can only be believed on the basis of a blind faith in human reason.
Unproved Atheist Assumptions #3#
The Laws of nature are never broken. They are universal and dependable.
One of the oldest and most hackneyed arguments against religion is that miracles are scientifically impossible since the laws of nature are unbreakable.
If one challenged a scientist to conduct an experiment, or any series of experiments to prove this supposition, he or she would quickly have to admit that this idea cannot be confirmed or falsified using the scientific method.
For all we know, the laws of nature might be irregular and local rather than universal. Our faith is the former rather than the latter is just that faith – belief without evidence, or at least without scientific evidence.
Unproved Atheist Assumptions #4#
The Reality of Reality
Is the whole of reality just a dream, or some kind of simulation? Or perhaps it is some kind of hallucination? Maybe ‘you’ are the only person who exists.
Maybe the whole universe exists only within your brain. That’s if you actually have a brain!!!…these ‘Matrix’ like ideas may be highly disconcerting and not very encouraging towards scientific advancement.
Yet, even if we cannot fail but to believe in the existence of this world, it cannot be denied that science can never prove it to be real since any experiment could also be part of the dream/simulation/hallucination etc.
Unproved Atheist Assumptions #5#
Non-contradiction.
Scientists propose different hypotheses to explain observations in nature and then choose one over the others based on greater volume of evidence.
Yet this presupposes that two contradictory explanations for a phenomenon cannot be both true. This is known in philosophy as the law of non-contradiction and is essential to the underpinning of the scientific enterprise.
However, there is not an iota of scientific evidence to prove that it is true. Indeed science is not equipped to prove or disprove this common-sense idea.
There are other basic unproved assumptions too, such as the truth and applicability of mathematics.
See this article for powerful reasons why God should be accepted, regardless of the lack of ‘testable’ scientific means to confirm his existence.
