Did the Children of Adam Marry Each other according to Islam?
Atheism fails to provide any objective basis for moral values.
As such, Atheist intellectuals such as Richard Dawkins and Peter Singer approve of perversions such as incest between sisters and bestiality, providing this is consensual.
Atheist debaters online, especially Ex-Muslims often respond to this weakness in their chosen worldview with the following responses:
‘Islam says Adam and Eve’s children intermarried’.
This is untrue as explained below in the infographic above.
‘Cousin marriage is allowed in Islam and this is incest. Furthermore, it is ‘harmful’ to offspring due to the higher risk of genetic defects‘
In response, I would argue that most cultures have not viewed this as incest. Until recently cousin marriage was even commonplace in the West, unlike true incest. See here.
Whilst inappropriate sex between first degree relatives weakens the bonds of family, marriage between other relatives strengthens familial ties over generations. The risk of genetic defects is also not necessarily that great as generally believed. Those arguing against cousin marriage on this basis should also ask for sterilisation of women over 40! See this article.
‘We know incest is wrong, we don’t need religion to tell us”
This argument is not difficult to refute. There are a number of Atheist posters online who will happily argue that sex with one’s mother (with contraception) or between brothers is okay.
Those who stick to the traditional, universal view need to think deeply then, what if not religion is framing their sense of right and wrong?
In truth, objective and universal morality is inistricably linked to religion. Any attempts to deny this are self-deceptive.
Atheist Philospher , Richard Garner realises this, and therefore argues morality should be abolished altogether as another ‘delusion’ alongside religion:
“If indeed a belief in morality is a delusion to be overcome, it is never too early to start. Moral memes have burrowed deep into our brains and our public rhetoric, but we can root them out by reminding ourselves that morality is a human invention based on biology, ignorance, credulity, fear, and a lust for control. If the belief in objective values is as mistaken as the error theorist argues, and as harmful as the moral abolitionist believes, then we would be well advised to find another star by which to sail”
To reject the existence of God, is to reject the existence of good…
